Biological Science Technician

The Parkway meanders for 469 miles, protecting a diversity of plants and animals, and providing opportunities for enjoying all that makes this region of the country so special. Responsible for leading other staff, interns, and/or volunteers in invasive plant control in national parks in the southeastern United States. Control efforts will take place under challenging environmental conditions, over long workdays, and with the use of herbicides and power tools. The employee must be skilled at identifying plants, choosing safe and effective control techniques, and leading others in challenging field work. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/15/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40
hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Applicant must posses at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes managing natural resources in a field setting; and applying pesticides in a natural area; Knowledgeable in identifying and controlling invasive plants. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Applicant must possess two full years of graduate education or a master's degree with coursework in a field of study directly related this position to be filled including biology, ecology, botany, forestry, agriculture, etc. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION:
Applicant must possess a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have six months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 21 semester hours of graduate work in a field of study that is directly-related to the work of this position (50% of the education requirement). Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
