Supervisory Medical Supply Technician

Primary responsibility for the quality assurance program in order to ensure that complete sterility is maintained for all instruments, equipment, and supplies delivered to the O.R. and that all RME used throughout CGVAMC is reprocessed and available for use. Workload and production reports, reports on highlights of operations, including reports of bacteriological test results, preventive maintenance, and sterilization tests, to the Chief, SPS, Infection Control, and the Associate Director, Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive or designee. Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff. Demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Provides feedback and evaluates employee performance. Conducts disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other actions in more serious cases. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests. Assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. Plans and schedules ongoing production-oriented work and adjusts staffing levels or work procedures within the organizational unit to accommodate resource allocation decisions. Sets and adjust schedules to meet deadlines. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Interviews candidates for positions in the unit, recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignments to such positions. Identifies and schedules developmental and training needs of employees. Oversee Sterile Preparation, Decontamination and Endoscope reprocess, and all the duties are assigned to these areas. Work Schedule:

United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Proficient in reading and speaking the English language. Must have at least one year experience of the next lower grade. Required to be VHA Level II SPS Certified and preferably IAHCSMM certified. Understand sterilization parameters, biological monitoring, preparation and packaging, supply handling and storage, and strict compliance with the VA SPS Handbook, the Joint Commission Regulations, as well as all local policies and procedures, and other SPS related regulatory standards and guidelines while supporting SPS in development of standardization principles. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
1. Knowledge of surgical instruments used in operating rooms and clinic settings. 2. Knowledge of universal precautions for safety and prevention of cross contamination. 3. Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, medical conditions and procedures. 4. Knowledge of sterility principles in regards to instrumentation. 5. Ability to read and interpret written instructions and procedures. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
