Medical Technician - Clinical Laboratory Generalist

NOTE:
This is a TEMPORARY appointment (not-to-exceed 9/30/2021). This appointment may be renewed for additional service in accordance with Agency needs for 1 additional year. Temporary positions offer health insurance (if the employee is expected to work at least 130 hours per month for at least 90 days) but do not offer life insurance or retirement benefits and may be terminated at any time before the expiration date. The appointment to a Temporary position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment. Major duties and responsibilities include:
Performs venipuncture, selecting appropriate collection devices, and taking any necessary precautions in specimen preparation Correctly identifies patients, confirming name and full social security number prior to performing venipunctures Collects stat specimens and therapeutic drugs from outpatients, critical care units or Emergency Department Delivers specimens from collection areas to the main laboratory for analysis Performs a variety of tests which are difficult and complex Recognizes erroneous lab results and makes appropriate clinical decisions based on these results Performs routine maintenance on the analyzers, and monitors the quality control system Prepares reagents and stores appropriately after preparations Identifies unusual test results or discrepancies, which may cause erroneous results (instrument malfunctions, condition of test performance, reaction systems, specimen integrity, and/or test procedures used) and takes appropriate actions to resolve the problem Participates in the laboratory quality assurance program by documenting all incidents/errors/complaints and by detailing any immediate actions taken to resolve these issues Performs other related laboratory duties as required Work Schedule:

You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. AND To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must meet have:
At least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes:
experience that may have been gained in (a) technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the positions being filled. NOTE:

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
