Financial Administrative Specialist

1) Maintains a log of error reports, sources and corrective action taken and timelines. 2) Develops and presents reports of patterns and trends by carrier, organization, provider, etc. in order to provide constructive feedback for improvement to the appropriate source. 3) Actively participates in new system implementation and training. 4) Maintains accurate claims data to ensure that systematic and ad-hoc reports reflect correct and timely information concerning days-to-bill, amount billed, CPT Codes, etc. 5) Prepares correspondence, reports, memoranda or other written products concerning a wide range of issues surrounding billing and/or collection activities. Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current VA employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. A SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education s described below:
GS-07 Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
1) Monitors claims transmission from CPAC to payers. 2) Identifies trends, patterns, deviations, errors and other activity in order to develop remedial action(s) and institutionalize higher claims productivity. 3) Controls, reviews and evaluates system error reports from payers, Austin Automation Center and other sources. 4) Establishes deadlines for error correction and ensures corrective action is executed within established policies and schedules. 5) Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. OR, GS-07:
Substitution of Education for Experience (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED):
One (1) full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. One (1) year of full-time graduate level education consists of 18 semester hours. Superior academic achievement is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. OR, GS-07:
Combination of Education and Experience (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED):
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience directly related to the work of the Financial Administrative Specialist position, may be substituted to meet the experience requirements for GS-07 position. For example, an applicant with 6 months of appropriate specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 (50 percent of the experience requirement for GS-07) and 6 months of successfully completed graduate education (9 semester hours which is 50 percent of the education requirement for the GS-07) would qualify for a GS-07 position. OR, GS-09 Specialized
Experience:
One (1) full year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to the grade 07 level in Federal service to qualify at the grade 09. Examples of specialized experience include:
1) Monitors claims transmission from CPAC to payers. 2) Identifies trends, patterns, deviations, errors and other activity in order to develop remedial action(s) and institutionalize higher claims productivity. 3) Controls, reviews and evaluates system error reports from payers, Austin Automation Center and other sources. 4) Establishes deadlines for error correction and ensures corrective action is executed within established policies and schedules. 5) Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. 6) Provides information and assistance to other healthcare team members in order to improve the documentation, efficiency and effectiveness of billing operations. 7) Submits claims for payment within the time frames established by industry standard(s) and/or VHA requirement. Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. OR, GS-09:

You must provide work experience information such as hours per week, salary, and starting/ending dates of employment (month and year format) to establish you have one (1) full year of Specialized Experience at or comparable to the required grade level. The work is primarily sedentary with long periods of sitting at a desk, working with computers daily. Some work may require walking in offices and similar areas for meetings. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
